Instead I'm going to link this article about 'A-Life' (the game's AI that brings all the systems together) at the bottom of the post. That would make this post unnecessarily long. I'm not going to vex poetics about the systemic greatness of the game's design. Now imagine the superbly competent, highly reactive AI that breathes twisted life in this twisted landscape: Packs of mutated boars (buffalo?) roam down the hills Wild dogs hunt bandits and stalk camps Hordes of zombies relentlessly shuffle towards you, evocative of man's destined demise.ĬoP's systems are what ground otherwise a highly fantastical narrative in a profoundly immersive and believable virtual world. Couple stellar lighting, a bleak color-pallet, and deliberate world design, and you are left with dead trees that cast long shadows on a sun-burnt meadow, the sound of a stream flowing down a ravine, crickets chirping here and there while crows circle above a dead bandit's corpse left near a rock. Much like FEAR, the things that make CoP such a phenomenal experience are too many to number, but suffice to say that this game probably has one of the richest atmospheres I've ever seen in a game.

I played on the hardest difficulty with the 'Complete' mod installed, which is purist friendly. I thank every single one of you who recommended I play the game.Ĭall of Pripyat was released in 2009. Well that's exactly what I did for the past week, and while I still firmly believe what I said about FEAR, I'm here to tell you that CoP is one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. That statement got a lot of positive reactions out of people, but there was a decent minority that recommended I should play S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat and see if it would change my mind.

The versions here have had additional mods merged with them such as Atmosfear and Absolute Nature as well as any fixes, tweaks and translations required.I recently made a post here saying that IMO FEAR is the best FPS game ever made: )

The modification evolves from the ideas started in Call of Misery, a previous project from the mod's author.
